What is Our Purpose?

Jacob's Journeys seeks to assist the ex-offender and the disadvantaged with reintegration into society. Proverbs 14:31 says, "Those who oppress the poor insult their Maker, but helping the poor honors Him." We seek to accomplish this through our program called ReStart St. Louis, which equips the individual with a set of skills, fosters a strong dependable work ethic and assists with job placement.

We also seek to show that until the heart is changed for the Lord, our work is in vain. Colossians 3:23 says "Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people." When given the oppourtunity to work for the Lord, a sense of satisfaction is achieved. Ecclesiastes 2:24 confirms this: "So I decided there is nothing better than to enjoy food and drink and to find satisfaction in work. Then I realized that these pleasures are from the hand of God." We can either work for the Lord or ourselves. True joy is found in working for the Lord!

Our 7 fold mission:

  1. Provide job training for the disadvantaged

ReStart combines on-the-job training with auto mechanic instruction to provide individuals with marketable skills. In addition, we seek to develop a culture of dependability, punctuality and a strong work ethic. A low student-teacher ratio fosters relationships and facilitates mentoring as well as training.
  2. Assist trainees in other areas of need

ReStart helps trainees find additional external support, including but not limited to housing, education, food, childcare, counseling, church family, etc. We desire to work with other organizations to provide individuals with a full range of support essential to their success in society. This helps them fill the void created by a past of bad decisions.
  3. Develop professional skills

ReStart endeavors to give trainees all the tools they will need to succeed in the real world. We will assist them in learning both technical and transferable skills. We will model and promote enthusiasm, diligence and honesty.
  4. Build personal relationships with trainees

ReStart seeks to assist trainees with strong mentoring relationships, both on the job and at church, that will help them weather the inevitable storms of rejection, temptation and hardship that they will experience as they seek to fully reintegrate into society.
  5. Assist trainees with job placement

ReStart partners with local shops and garages to provide jobs for graduates. These business relationships are important to the success of our ministry. We will only recommend those who have demonstrated a competent understanding of the necessary skills, along with integrity, dependability and a strong work ethic.
  6. Assist disadvantaged persons in need of automotive repairs

ReStart provides the community with high-quality auto repairs at below market prices. Working with area churches we will determine the greatest need and partner with them in covering the cost of essential repairs.
  7. Provide a “home” for unwanted vehicles

ReStart takes donations of used cars, trucks, boats, lawn mowers and cash to provide learning opportunities for our trainees. Repaired, dependable cars will be sold below market value to deserving individuals in partnership with area churches. Non-repairable cars will be sold for parts and recycled to provide funding for the program.
